FAQ - Nancy Hands one of the Most Famous Traditional Irish Bars in Dublin

How did the pub get its name, Nancy Hands?
The name comes from Nancy, Ireland’s first female pub owner, who famously served pints through a small hatch during Sunday holy hours when pubs had to close. Customers could only see her hands, and the nickname Nancy Hands stuck. Her bold spirit and story live on throughout the pub today.

Where is Nancy Hands located?
You’ll find us in Dublin City, just round the corner from Heuston Station and close to the Guinness Storehouse and Phoenix Park. We’re ideally located for visitors exploring the city or locals looking for an authentic pub experience.

What makes Nancy Hands stand out as a traditional Irish pub?
From its 150-year-old walls and antique furnishings to the weekly live music sessions and warm hospitality, Nancy Hands is everything a traditional Irish pub should be. It’s a place where history, culture, and a great pint come together.

What is so special about your traditional Irish food?
Our traditional Irish food is made from locally sourced ingredients and cooked with care. Dishes like beef and Guinness stew, chowder, and fish & chips offer the comforting flavours of Ireland, elevated with generous portions and a touch of Dublin charm.

Do you have live traditional Irish music at Nancy Hands?
Yes, we host live traditional Irish music every week, featuring some of Dublin’s finest local musicians. It's all part of the authentic experience you’d expect from a true traditional Irish pub, and guests are often welcomed to join in with a song or instrument.
